FAQs -Mechanical Door Lock

1. What door sizes do these locks fit?

Most Tinewa mechanical locks fit standard U.S. doors: 1-3/8"–1-3/4" (35–45 mm) thickness. For other door sizes, please check the specific product listing or contact us before ordering.

2. What backset (latch distance) do they support? How do I adjust the latch length?

Latches are adjustable 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60/70 mm). Measure from the door edge to the center of the hole and set the latch to match. Tinewa latches have a slide or pull-to-extend mechanism. Press the adjuster tab/collar and slide to the longer/shorter position until it clicks. Recheck that the spindle turns freely before installing.

3. Are the levers/knobs left- or right-handed?

They’re reversible. You can install on left- or right-hand doors without buying a different model.

4. Do privacy door locks use a key? How do I unlock them from outside?

Privacy locks are keyless (for bedrooms/bathrooms). They lock inside with a turn/push button and have an emergency release on the outside. To unlock from the hall side, insert a straightened paperclip or coin into the small hole and push to release.

5. What’s the difference among lock types?

Keyed Entry/Deadbolt Combo: Key outside, thumb-turn inside (front/exterior doors).

Privacy: Keyless lock for indoor rooms; emergency pin release outside.

Passage: No lock, just latch—ideal for hall/closet.

Dummy: Single-side pull only, no latch—double doors or decorative use.

6. What materials are these locks made of?

Tinewa mechanical locks use heavy-duty zinc alloy for the levers/knobs and exterior rosettes, with steel/brass internal components for the latch and deadbolt. Finishes include Matte Black, Brushed Nickel, Satin Nickel and Gold with corrosion-resistant surface treatment.

7. What’s in the box?

Interior & exterior levers/knobs, adjustable latch, strike plate, mounting screws and installation guide.

8. Are these compatible with metal or thick doors?

They’re designed for standard residential wood doors. For metal doors or doors thicker than 1-3/4", check the specific listing or contact us before place an order.

9. Tips for a smooth install

Tighten screws evenly to keep the lever/knob centered and turning smoothly. After installing, test latch & key/turn with the door open before closing. If the latch doesn’t align, adjust the strike plate slightly or deepen the mortise.
